Tips For Getting The Best Tamarindo Costa Rica Vacation Rentals
Pt. 5: How to Prepare for Your Trip
The first installment of our Tips For Tamarindo Vacation Rentals series we discussed the advantages of using a professional property management service when searching for a vacation rental in Tamarindo. In part two we covered the various location choices in the area. We detailed how Tamarindo truly has something for everybody when it comes to vacation rental property locations. In part three of our series, we gave you the rundown on the available price ranges and what to expect for your money when renting in the Tamarindo area. In the last installment of our series, we explained the “Pura Vida” way of life and why this attitude is what makes the culture and people here so special, and how sometimes Costa Rica’s relaxed pace, closeness to nature, and the occasional gap in basic services can present a challenge to first time visitors.
The lesson being, if you take things in stride and adopt the Pura Vida spirit you will have a great experience during your visit. In this installment, we will cover how to prepare for your trip to the little slice of paradise that is Tamarindo.
Time to Travel
You have made the big decision, found the perfect rental property with a professional property management service, have booked your trip, and are anxiously awaiting your arrival to your Tamarindo vacation rental. What’s next? How do you prepare? What should you bring? Well, don’t stress out too much before your vacation becomes more work than it needs to be, remember you have pros on your side. Ask your rental service for a bit of advice and details about the location, what’s available in the area, and what services they provide. You might learn that renting a car, for example, is unnecessary given the location and your personal needs. Having what you need to be comfortable on your trip is always important so we’ll give you FYI on the personal effects and necessities here.
What to Bring? The Basics.
Tamarindo has a wide range of available goods and services. There are plenty of places to stock up on personal necessities, and such. So if you want to pack light you can, but know that some things here are a bit more expensive than you might expect and you might not find the brand names you are used to. It’s a good idea to bring your own toiletries, sunscreen and insect protection as they are marked up rather high at most outlets and you can save time by having it ready when you arrive. Most rental properties are outfit with towels and basic toiletries so this should not be a problem, but if you have questions, ask your booking agent and they can let you know if they provide things like beach towels, for example.
What to Wear
Clothing wise, beachwear and lightweight active-wear is the norm, but eveningwear is not out of the question as Tamarindo boasts many nightlife options, so remember to keep it cool. Sun protection like hats, sunglasses, and cover-ups are also highly recommended. Tamarindo is only 10 degrees north of the equator after all, and the sun here can be fierce. Cool shoes and sandals will also help you make your transition to the tropics in stride. Most importantly, wear a smile; you’re on vacation in paradise after all, and nothing will bridge the culture gap you might experience like a smile and a “Pura Vida”!
There is a lot to see in the Tamarindo area and capturing the magic on your camera/phone/computer can make your trip that much more enjoyable. Many properties and businesses will have Wi-Fi and Tamarindo is well served with cellular service, so if you need to be connected, that’s no problem here. Again, ask your property manager about Wi-Fi and such. On the other hand, you might just want to unplug from it all, so feel free to leave your devices at home and relax. Either way, you won’t be bored in Tamarindo as there is plenty to see and do.
Sporting and Beach Gear
If you are coming to Tamarindo in search of the perfect wave, the trophy fish, a pristine dive, or just to relax on a secluded beach, you may be considering bringing your gear with you, but know that quality equipment is widely available for rental or use with most tours and shops. Hauling your gear with you is not necessary unless you are a purist and you require certain specialized equipment. Some higher-end rental properties may even provide surfboards, or kayaks and such. Again check with your agent. Regardless of whether you find the perfect wave, catch the trophy fish or discover your own pristine paradise, one thing is for sure: you will find fun on your visit to the Tamarindo area.
Whether your goal is to unplug from it all or take as much in as possible during your visit, take the time to prepare, ask questions and consult a professional property management service to ensure you get the most out of your stay. As long as you bring an open mind, wear a smile, and embrace Pura Vida, your Tamarindo vacation rental experience should be amazing.
