In part one of this ten part series, we discussed the different zip lining tour companies and packages available in Tamarindo. In part two, we explored some of the many restaurants and dining experiences found throughout Tamarindo. In part three we discussed the surfing scene of Tamarindo and the abundant surf breaks suitable for surfers of all skill levels. In part four, we discussed deep sea and sport fishing opportunities in Tamarindo. In part five, we explored the different golf courses found in the Tamarindo area. In part six, we looked at the nightlife scene that’s happening in Tamarindo. In part seven, we’ll discuss scuba diving in, and around, Tamarindo.

Whether it’s your first, tenth, or hundredth dive, Tamarindo is a great place for scuba divers of all levels. If you’ve never been scuba diving before, but want to give it a try, a variety of courses are available through Agua Rica Diving Center, located right in the heart of Tamarindo. For divers who haven’t been in the water for a while, refresher courses are offered to get you back up to speed before hitting the open ocean. Diving in Tamarindo is a great opportunity to try something new, brush up on old skills, complete a Dive Master Certification, or simply enjoy interacting with the diverse marine life of the area.

Aqua Rica Diving Center is a PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) and SSI (Scuba Schools International) facility, offering Resort Dive Courses and Open Water Certification. The Resort Dive Course allows you to try out scuba diving and see if you like it before committing to the longer process of getting your Open Water Dive Certification. The Resort Course consists of 3 hours of training in the afternoon, followed by 2 dives the next morning. This is a great way to get comfortable in the water. The Resort Dive Course is also a good refresher course for someone who hasn’t been on a dive in a while, but already has their Open Water Certification.

If you know diving is for you and you want to get your Open Water Certification, Agua Rica Diving Center is the place to do it. You can start the process before you arrive in Tamarindo, or you can complete the whole course once in Costa Rica. The Open Water Certification takes 4 days to complete and includes training, pool dives, and 4 open water dives. Once you complete your Open Water Dive Certification, you can dive anywhere in the world!  If you already have your Open Water Dive Certification, you can get right down to business in Tamarindo with night dives, 2 tank dives, and as much ocean exploring as your heart desires.

Tamarindo is an excellent place to dive and you’ll have the chance to see all kinds of beautiful marine life, including Costa Rica’s majestic sea turtles, giant manta rays, eagle rays, and large bull sharks, schools of cownose rays, a plethora of different fish species, and much more. Boats leave from Tamarindo and take you to several dive spots like the Catalina Islands, just 10 miles north of Tamarindo, or Cabo Velas in Tamarindo Bay. If you are traveling with folks who aren’t Open Water Certified, or don’t want to scuba dive, you can put together a package which includes snorkeling and scuba diving sights.

Not far from Tamarindo, The Pacific Coast Dive Center, located in Playa Flamingo, is another scuba center, offering certification programs, diving packages, and snorkeling excursions. Just north of Tamarindo, the Ocotal Scuba Diving Resort also offers diving opportunities with trips to the Catalina Islands, Bat Islands, and other locations in the Papagayo Gulf.

The diving locations right off the coast of Tamarindo are some of the best diving locations in all of Costa Rica, providing dives with once in a life time opportunities to swim with beautiful creatures of the ocean. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first dive, or if you are a seasoned scuba veteran, you will love diving in Tamarindo and exploring the ocean in a whole new way. Scuba diving is just one of the many reasons to visit and fall in love with Tamarindo. Book your dive trips in advance or stop by the Agua Rica Diving Center in Tamarindo to get the ball rolling.
