Things To Do In Costa Rica, Pt. 5

Great Things to do in Costa Rica: a 10 part series

Tamarindo golf

Part Five: Tamarindo Golf

In part one of this ten part series, we discussed the different zip lining tour companies and packages available in Tamarindo. In part two, we explored some of the many restaurants and dining experiences found throughout Tamarindo. In part three we discussed the surfing scene of Tamarindo and the abundant surf breaks suitable for surfers of all skill levels. In part four, we discussed deep sea and sport fishing opportunities in Tamarindo. In part five, we will explore the different golf courses found in the Tamarindo area.

Guanacaste is home to some of Costa Rica’s best golf courses, so during your stay in Tamarindo, you’ll have the chance to play a round of golf, surrounded by the lush beauty of the tropics and the majestic Pacific Ocean. Just south of Tamarindo is the Hacienda Pinilla Golf Club. This 18-hole, par 72 course has earned designation as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary for its preservation of ecological balance. Play a round of golf while howler monkeys hang out in the trees above you and parrots fly overhead. The course was specifically designed to be able to handle the immense rainfall that can occur during the rainy season in Guanacaste. Some days, over 30 inches of rain can fall, but thanks to the brilliant drainage design at Hacienda Pinilla, golfers can be enjoying the course the very next day.

Just north of Tamarindo, in Playa Conchal you will discover the Reserva Conchal Golf Course, part of the The Westin Resort and Spa. This 18 hole course is a par 71 which boasts an eco-golf experience with exotic wildlife and panoramic Pacific Ocean views. A bit further up the coast from the Reserva Conchal Golf Course you will encounter the Four Seasons Resort Peninsula Papagayo, home to one of the best 18 hole courses in all of Costa Rica. This course was built in 2004 and designed by Arnold Palmer. The course is also a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary and was named as one of the best 100 courses outside of the United States by Golf Digest and one of the top 20 courses in the world according to Travel and Leisure. Packages to play at all three courses, Hacienda Pinilla, Reserva Conchal, and Four Seasons, are available for the die-hard golfer who wants to experience each of these amazing and unique courses.

If you’re looking for golf closer to Tamarindo, you will find the driving range at the Hotel Tamarindo Diria Beach Resort. As the golfing culture continues to grow and become more popular throughout Costa Rica and the Guanacaste Province, more courses will no doubt turn up in the next few years. In the meantime, the courses at Hacienda Pinilla, Reserva Conchal, and Four Seasons are excellent, so if you’re a golfer, make sure and pack your clubs when heading down to Tamarindo. You don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to play these courses, and share them with the howler monkeys!
