Tamarindo is located in the province of Guanacaste, on Costa Rica's northwest Pacific coast. Driving time from the capital city of San José is 4-5 hours on paved roads. The international airport in Liberia, Guanacaste, is just a 50 minute drive from Tamarindo.

The Tamarindo airport is located two miles outside the village, and is a 45 minute flight from San José, a 15 minute flight from the Liberia airport. Rental cars and taxi services are available in Tamarindo.
